Open Graph Analyzer

Paste a page's HTML to check the tags that control how it looks when shared — Open Graph and Twitter/X card — see which values platforms would fall back to, and preview a generic link card.

How to use the Open Graph Analyzer

  1. Paste the HTML

Page source works. Add the page URL so relative image paths can be resolved.

  2. Review required tags

og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url are the core set; description and site name are recommended.

  3. Check the image

Confirm it's an absolute URL with sensible dimensions. Loading the preview image is optional and happens only if you click.

  4. Fix and re-check

After changes, platforms may cache old previews — use each platform's own debugging tool to refresh.

What it checks

Core Open Graph
og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url present and non-empty.
Recommended tags
og:description, og:site_name, og:locale, og:image:alt and image dimensions.
Image URL
Absolute https URL, file type, and declared width/height (1200×630 is a common target).
Consistency
og:url compared with the canonical; og:title compared with the title tag.
Twitter/X card
twitter:card value (summary or summary_large_image), and which values would fall back to Open Graph.
Duplicates
The same property declared more than once with different values.

Interpreting the results

The tag table lists every og: and twitter: property with its value and a status. The “effective values” panel shows what a platform would most likely use for title, description and image — including fallbacks to the title tag and meta description when Open Graph tags are missing.

The preview is a generic link card, not a copy of any platform's design. Each platform crops images, truncates text and caches previews differently, so treat it as an approximation of layout, not a guarantee.

Detected marks facts read directly from what you provided. Guidance marks general recommendations based on those facts — rules of thumb, not guarantees or search engine requirements.

Practical guidance

Shared links are often the first impression of a page — in chat apps, social feeds and community forums. The most common problems are a missing or relative og:image, one generic image used across the whole site, and og:url pointing to the homepage because a template hard-codes it. Each of these is flagged.

Open Graph doesn't influence rankings directly, but it influences whether people click a shared link, and shared content is one of the ways pages earn natural mentions and links. That's the same reason we care about the pages our clients promote through guest posting or backlink packages being well presented. To create a correct set of tags, use the Meta Tag Generator; for all other head tags, the Meta Tag Analyzer.

Limitations

  • It reads the HTML you paste; platforms read the live page and may cache old versions for days.
  • Image dimensions are checked from declared tags. The actual image is only loaded if you click “Load image preview”, which makes a request from your browser to the image host.
  • Platform-specific rules (minimum sizes, aspect ratios, text limits) change often and aren't all enforced here.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my link still show the old image?

Platforms cache previews. Use the platform's own sharing debugger to request a fresh scrape.

Do I need Twitter card tags?

Usually only twitter:card. X/Twitter falls back to Open Graph for title, description and image.

What image size should I use?

1200×630 pixels is a widely used target for large link previews. Keep important content away from the edges, as platforms crop differently.

Is my HTML uploaded?

No. It's analysed in your browser.
